Philadelphia, Pa. loan certificates, 1853, 1873.

The collection consists of a District of Richmond, Pa. bond for three hundred dollars payable to William F. Emlen and I.D. Sergeant, dated 10 Feb. 1853, and an Ice Boat Loan certificate for fifty dollars, City of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Drexel & Co., May 19, 1873. Engravings on the Richmond bond include a waterfront scene surrounded by engravings of Neptune, a Native American, children harvesting wheat, Justice with scale, and a woman and two children with a flag. Engravings on the Philadelphia certificate include the Independence Hall complex, George Washington, three other men, plus a mechanic and a woman farmer.
